Today is a gorgeous day, and I feel so good, I’m sitting on my patio watching my niece and her friends play in the pool as I reflect over my life and the past five years.
It wasn’t very long ago when I was very depressed, having thoughts of ending it all, and looking at my son thinking – I don’t deserve you; why did you choose me.
I remember staring at him some days thinking about what his friends would think when they saw the foreclosure sign in the yard once we moved. As it turns out the broker was kind enough to not do that, for me.
Imagine this, you’re in your early 30’s, you’ve been saving and investing your money, and as of today, you have +/- $227,000 in your savings account.
Then 25 months from now it’s down to $11,000 because you’ve had no choice but to live off of it – and it’s slowly diminishing day by day.
How would that make you feel?
Bad huh? I know, that was me in 2010. I had a thriving business for 12 years and all of a sudden out of nowhere, BOOM!
The real estate market which held up the economy for so long just flopped seemingly overnight and my empire collapsed with it.
A setback is a setup for a comeback.
I lost my homes (investment properties and personal residence), money, and to top it all off, my marriage failed. My clients were losing their jobs, taking massive pay cuts, and even losing their homes too.
I just wanted to stop the bleeding for all of us.
I'd wake up thinking this can't be the end; there has to be a better way! Then I started praying for something different, something that would allow me to help people so that I could forget about all of my problems.
Something with a low investment because I didn't have much to spare. More importantly, I needed to be around people that were committed to being prepared for when this happens again, because you know it will.
God is so good!
He sent me an angel in the form of a man whose house I cleaned for several years. He gave me two tickets to see Robert Kiyosaki at a wealth-building seminar and recommended a few books that I highly recommend you read.
I'll provide links to them at the bottom of this blog post, and I added a couple myself.
After attending the seminar and connecting back with my client, I set a three-year goal to be financially independent again AND then went on my search.
At the end of the day, I needed something that was recession-proof!

After doing my research, looking at several franchises, independent contractor opportunities I realized that network marketing was the right vehicle for me to pursue.
If you look at what's out there in today's business world, you'll see that network marketing has the lowest financial risk, and it's even one of the fastest ways to create financial independence.
That's if one is committed to working it at least 5 – 10 hours a week, build their business with integrity and commit to the growing process.
So I started looking for a health and wellness company (learn why in the video below).
I found it!
What I love most is that I get to help people improve their quality of life as well as help people build a successful business so that they can avoid going through what I went through.
I'm proud to say that I've recovered from all of my losses, created total financial independence in under seventeen months, and I've earned multiple six figures working part-time in the network marketing profession.
It helped me rebuild Elaine Thomas Interiors into a brand that I love more than ever because I get to offer affordable soft-goods without having to charge an arm and a leg.
That's the beauty of having multiple streams of income!
Financial Independence
I define financial independence as having a recurring income that comes in and covers all of my liabilities with plenty left to save and or invest every month. That takes time; just know that it's possible.
Over to you! If you lost your income, how many months would you survive off of your savings?
I was able to live off mine for a little over 24 months when the economy crashed, but most people don’t have enough to carry them longer than three months.
That's a terrifying thought. Do you know what's worse?
Knowing that you don't have enough saved and doing noting about it.
If someone lost a job once, surely they can lose another. So many things can happen to cause an income loss, but you can do something now to be prepared just in case.
