When Subarana Gupta contacted me to share her project SHEROES NEXT DOOR and to see if I was a good fit to be apart of her book, I was excited for her and reluctant to be apart of it at the same time. You see, my past ain’t that pretty.
“This wonderful book is full of both inspiration and direction for any woman who wants to start and succeed in her own business.” – Brian Tracy
Enjoy this TED Talk, I hope you find inspiration in it and create an inspiring story of your own. It’s just one of the 4 reminders that I’ve had in the past couple of weeks. (my story starts at 4:44)
Let’s review a few of the tips Subarna mentioned:
- Look into what interests you and match your natural talents.
- Look for people who are doing what you want to do and ask them to show you how to do it to.
- Take action, leap and the net will appear.
- Don’t be afraid to fail. ←← THIS.
- Be somebody else’s sheroe – For me, it was my son. I wanted to give him the life that I never had, and I did.
Growing up I was a good kid; never got in trouble, did good in school, went to church 10 times a week, worked, and all of that good stuff. But after having protected sex one-time with my friend, at 18 I found myself pregnant and homeless… living out of my car, in shelters and from a friend to friend until the Robinson family of angels showed up in my life.
“Opportunity favours the bold – this is a lesson that I learned early on, and have used to guide the Virgin story. If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!” — Richard Branson
In this book, I shared many of my setbacks with Surbana and how used them to make a comeback… over and over again.
I’ve lost lots of money in the stock market, real estate, and in business but there’s one thing I haven’t lost; that is the belief that I was put on this earth to do great things.
